The former Chihuly Lounge has always been my top hotel afternoon tea spots
in Singapore and it still is despite having been rebranded as the
new Republic Bar. Dropped by on a Sunday afternoon for the festive
afternoon tea which was not only tastefully presented but also
gastronomically enjoyable.
The festive afternoon tea commenced with a pumpkin mocktail, rose
vanilla marshmallows and a savoury dish -- somewhat like the prelude in
fine dining courses. The savoury dish treaded along the Mediterranean
flavors in the form of a multigrain rice mixed with hummus and topped
with pickled purple cauliflower.
After some wait, the rest of the afternoon tea (except for the ending
sorbet and chocolate pralines) were served together. The scones were
nothing short of excellence --buttery, tender and just lightly sweetened.
Feel free to ask for more clotted cream if you wish.
Majority of the items are sweets, so the savouries served as
intermediaries for me to balance the sugar rush. The smoked salmon-gherkin
sandwich is quite a standard afternoon tea item thus the turkey-brie
carrot bun and truffle egg mayo sandwich presented in a pinwheel shaped
danish pastry stood out.
Trust me, this afternoon tea would leave you very full unless you were
extremely ravenous to start with. If you are a big afternoon tea fan, you
should definitely make a trip down to try this.
