My Willie Wonka Chocolate Factory

Have you ever picture your dream chocolate heaven when you read Roald Dahl's book? I did but I never expected that such a place would exist in reality.

But it seems like I am wrong

Old world nostalgic charm of Paris with this Choo Choo train that goes at full speed above diners' heads.

Since its the spooky season, we went to try out the Halloween Menu that is only available for the month of October.

Purée of Pumpkin with Honeycomb Served with herbed croutons

This should not be called a soup because it is so rich but not because cream has been added, but because you are just literally eating pureed pumpkin. Naturally sweet with bits of smoked chicken inside. It would be great to have this in winter!

Main-American chestnut with Pumpkin Risotto
Another dish that has exceeded my expectation because it is packed with cheesy flavour (well this means that some might not like it) mixed with steamed whole chestnuts, bacons, cubed carrots. This is just pure comfort food that you can just dig in spoonfuls after spoonfuls.

The dessert for the cake was apple cheesecake so it did not appeal to us. Hence, we settled with a 2 course Halloween meal.To try out something original from the restaurant, I ordered a signature ala carte dish

Duck Confit
This dish has won my hearts even though I am not a duck meat lover. Classic French style of cooking duck in oil but this is not greasy at all. Crispy outer layer with chunky duck thigh meat that you can just pull off easily.

Oooh my goodness. That bitter salty chocolate sauce surprises me as I had tried duck in chocolate sauce at an italian restaurant before but that occasion left me with a nightmare.
But this, truly blows my mind. I like the fact that the sauce is not drizzled or poured over the entire duck. So the crisp coating is maintained. With that soft creamy mash potato and generous portions of sweet baby carrots, fly me to the moon!!!

Dessert-Rustic Caramel Apple Pecan Cake with Ice Cream Gelato
This warm but not hot caramel pecan cake served in a skillet is not an apple crumble. So it is actually quite filling. The sweetest part is the ice cream and not the cake.

As I had happily finished the ice cream and little caramel sauce before the cake, I requested for more caramel sauce and was happy to receive it without additional charge.( be warned that this is big enough to be shared between 2-3, otherwise you will end up becoming too full)

Before leaving, Why not take home some wicked Halloween treats for yourselves?

Salted Caramel cupcake with a ghoulish marzipan

Mixed Berry cupcake with Spooky Eyeball Praline
These cupcakes are available all year but they are just being decorated to match the Halloween Season!
Verdict- I don't order cupcakes for it's simplicity but when I do, I have high expectations of it. I have a rule of preheating all my butter cakes, cupcakes and pound cakes before consuming so that I can get the most original taste. To me, cupcakes have to be not greasy, soft, moist and not too sweet. Au Chocolat versions are comparable to Twelve Cupcakes and they both met my expectation. However, I would wish for equal ratio of cream filling
Not only beautifully decorated but the taste is also delicious
That said, the service especially by a same guy was unsatisfactory as I received unpleasant expressions when I asked for a change from high tea set to duck confit. Other than that, the ladies at the takeaway section and other servers at the bistro were friendly.

Will I return to this place? Yes, the chance of returning is 90% but try to avoid peak hours during weekends
Happy Halloween!

漁 Yú Cuisine : Eat When You Are Feeling Blue

I have always walked past this blue restaurant but never had a chance to enter. After hearing some positive reviews of this place, we decided to try out the dim sum which is available daily from 11am to 5.30pm. The best thing is that they are having a promotion of 30% of all dimsum items (but take note this applies after 3pm on Sat/Sun/PH)

They have a one page autumn/winter dimsum menu. I like the idea that they changed their dimsum menu every season. Even though some may find the choices rather limited, but well there is still the ala carte lunch/dinner menu which has many tempting offerings.
Crispy Fried Salmon Skin ( I thought it was free appetisers though)
Super crispy salmon skin that is not greasy at all. One of the best salmon skin so far.

Honey Roasted walnuts and cashew nuts with white sesame (2nd appetiser)
Another nice change to our usual salted peanuts. But wish they had not been charged.

Must Try-Signature chilli crab tart.
Don't be deceive by the looks. The spicy warm Singapore chilli crab filling just flows once you take a bite.

The tart shell is crispy but not oily and there is no trace of any sogginess.

Trio Eggs Rabbit dumpling
A savoury dish filled with century egg and some mixed vegetables.

The skin is too thick. Even though it may be cute looking, this is not worth ordering.

Steam spare ribs and glass noodle basket.
Traditional chicken feet in BBQ sauce.

Shredded roast duck sesame pastry A dark horse of the day.
Spicy duck meat filling with crispy Chinese pastry skin. The skin has many layers but not oily.
A good alternative to our usual char siew puff or char siew bao( they are on the menu too)

Roasted Pork Belly
Highly recommended as every single piece is consistently crispy

Mango with prawns black sesame roll
Crispy deep fried prawn drizzled with some green mayonnaise that is definitely not wasabi mayo.

Dinosaur rice roll that is drizzled with some special sauce with spring onions 恐龙肠粉

As highly recommended by other bloggers, this one is indeed another star by its huge dinosaur size.
Good value for $$.
The interior consists of deep fried fritter and turnips.
Do not shy away from ordering this even though it is deep fried as they are not greasy at all. The different textures of this dish paired with the sauce makes it taste heavenly.

Exclusive imperial yam cakeDon't understand which part is "exclusive" and "imperial". To me, it's a simple steamed, panfried on the surface, yam cake with yummy sauce of toppings like mushrooms, char Siew and dried prawns:)
Worth ordering as it is less starchy than the usual kind.

Shanghai dumpling in lobster broth (ala carte)
Highly recommended because the big sized xiao long bao is really juicy. Chunks of lobster meat can be found. The soup emits wine fragrance, looks like lobster bisque but is actually tastes more like the lobster version of milky fish soup.
Kailan and chilled cherry tomatoes on ice (ala carte menu)Like the innovative presentation.
The Lan Mei sauce that the cherry tomatoes are covered in makes this small tiny fruit shines. Eat it in one bite and let the fresh sweetness burst into your mouth.
Kailan is to be dipped into the wasabi soy sauce and unexpectedly this way actually brings out a natural sweetness and crunchiness of Kailan that I have never noticed
Beancurd skin roll over the bridge
过桥腐皮卷This deep fried beancurd skin with large chunks of prawn is to be dipped into the bowl of soup that I supposed should be the soup for the 过桥Mee Xian. Rather average dish
Signature golden lava custard bun

The size is not small and the salted egg yolk filling just ooze up without stopping. A Must Try!!

Egg Tart- My all time favourite :)

Hot grass jelly broth
Signature dessert that will turn into solid as it cools.

This warm dessert with red beans and mini nata de coco is really highly recommended and I actually prefer this liquid version than chewy solid.

                                                                         Herbal jelly

Mango cream jelly with fresh mangoes.

Overall, this is a good place to return for its ala carte dishes like  Hong Kong Aberdeen Chilli Crab and dim sum. One great thing is that all the food served are really hot and fresh. Presentation might not be fantastic but the taste can draw you back.

Prewett's Bakery: Chocolate Coated Bourbons‏

I have not written about snacks for a very long time. However, I have come across something really good and tasty recently , I decided to share this with anyone who likes cookies, especially chocolate ones.

This delicious gluten and wheat free chocolate coated biscuits with a chocolate melting centre ( that is if you do not refrigerate it) might seem like an average cream biscuit.

But once you take a bite, it crumbles messily without warning. The amount of chocolate coating is just in perfect proportion to the dark chocolate cookie.
The best thing is that it is not overpoweringly sweet. There are other flavours like honey and oat, milk chocolate digestives etc.

The Prewett brand is famous for its quality gluten free health food. It's founder William Prewett, began milling flour in Sussex, England since 1872. But I disagree that one piece of this cookie is healthier than any others because just one piece is equivalent two 2 packets of kitkat bar.
Nonetheless, the taste wins it all. Who cares if it's gluten-free or healthy or not? :)
