Christmas 2012 might be over but not for Christmas 2013. Since it is common for hotels to have the keep some flavours of their log cakes the same every year, I am quite sure that some shown here will return this year.
Aroma, the deli shop located in Hotel Intercontinental Singapore, has undergone a makeover with some new selections of chocolate pralines, sliced cakes and bread.

For the log cakes this year, the new Gula Melaka Chendol Log Cake tasted the best out of the three types available in slices.
Being consistent with the hotel's Peranakan style, this coconut-cream coated cake had just the right balance of the fragrant Gula Melaka in both the mousse and the sponge, making it difficult to stop at one slice.
The traditional Valrhona Chocolate Logcake (available each xmas) was mediocre and the sparse amount of chocolate pearls did not help to enhance the texture.
The Rum and Raisin Log cake was both good and bad. The rum mousse stood out with sufficient rum taste but the raisins were plain and the vanilla custard centre had too much gelatine and became chewier than a marshmallow.
On the other hand, the two regular item cakes which I had not seen previously were quite normal and did not wow.
This Chocolate Truffle was similar to the traditional chocolate log cake except with an addition of quite boring raisins. However, the square of dark chocolate truffle on top was intense and smooth.
Apart from these, the "old" cake selection or the staples such as sugar-free banana chocolate cake, chocolate praline and new york cheesecake already available few years ago are still surviving well. They cost around $6 each, cheaper than quite a number of hotel delis. But sadly it is closing much earlier without clearance discount now.
