Another SG50 celebration? Not really, but it was a joyously delicious mid-week for me at Swensen's (A local staple family restaurant which has expanded to over 20 full-service restaurants serving an all-day menu of food and ice cream sundaes) as I got a sneak peek of this year’s upcoming festive menu and tried out some of its inventive dishes infused with the essence of local specialties.
The festive dine-in menu basically features two Christmas entrées, the Chicken Istimewa and Swensen’s Turkey Burger (available respectively in the months of November & December 2015) as well as 3 delightful sundaes paying homage to the Singaporean palette that are exclusively available in restaurants islandwide from 1 November to 31 December 2015.
A pretty delectable dish that would satiate any cravings for savoury dish with a spicy kick, if it wasn’t that salty. I must say it’s a solid effort with nice local flavour, but there's definitely room for improvement.
We ended our meal with on a sweet note with Swensen’s locally inspired ice-cream created with a nostalgic twist sundaes: Sweet Corn Fever Forever (Ice Kacang style sundae that is made up of Red Bean, Chendol, Atap seeds and Corn kernels, with generous scoops of both Creamy Corn and Sweet Corn ice cream), Child’s Gem Delight( An edible Christmas tree made of classic chocolate ice cream, marshmallow sauce and colourful gem biscuits) , and Potong Supreme Pleaser (A salty, sweet, crunch-alicious sundae surrounded with crinkle-cut chips drizzed with gourmet chocolate, traditional Red Bean Potong ice cream wafer half dipped in Chocolate and a generous scoop of Vanilla ice cream).

Chicken Istimewa ($15.90)
This Asian-style entrée features the traditional culinary of exotic Indonesia with succulent chicken grilled to tender perfection subtly marinated in tantalizing spices, complemented with traditional Achar, prawn crackers, steamed rice and a dollop of sambal balachan. Swensen’s Turkey Burger ($17.90)
Putting a local twist on the American classic, the plump turkey patty is topped with sesame burger bun (Will probably taste perfect with brioche buns though), fresh lettuce, sliced tomato, fried egg and grilled pineapple that is dunked in authentic Gula Melaka!
The burger patty really stood out with its juicy, tender, with a meaty turkey flavour, instead of hiding behind a veil of seasonings. Most importantly, it was not mushy at all and does not taste like turkey-loaf. An indulgent creation stacked with deliciousness, served with chips and coleslaw.
