Itchy Bun: Latest Japanese Izakaya in town

Opened by the same folks behind Fook Kin, Itchy bun is a small cosy izakaya that serves up bar grub, hearty dons alongside Kirin beer.
Food: The menu is concise and the items are pretty much what you will like to have with alcohol. Fried food, small bites, rice bowls, buns (similar to those Chinese/Taiwanese gua bao), sides. Hits are the Ika Gesso with wasabi mayo ($11.80) and the Short Ribs Gyudon. But do note that the Gyudon tasted lighter in flavor compared to other gyudons but the portion of the meat was generous.
Subarashii don ($19.80) was the most expensive don from the menu, understandably why since it has a thick slab of Foie Gras. But somehow the ingredients didn't gell well together. Would recommend sticking to the usual rice bowls.
Spicy Karaage Buns ($5.80) was quite salty and not spicy at all, much to our disappointment. The Crispy Takoyaki with Aburi Mentaiko Mayo ($7.80) was indeed crispy but the mayo was scarce and limited to the small wisp piped on each ball.
Conclusion: Good place for late night drinking or after work chill. Not sure if the music was specially selected by the owners but it's pretty mood-lifting. Food isn't very ichiban but the fried food would keep you happy.
